Reflections
After spending time at my sit spot throughout the fall semester, I came to be very fond of the place. It is peaceful, quiet, and perfect to spend time on your own or with friends.
I never had a sit-spot before, so I did not know what to expect. I was afraid that I was going to feel very lonely, but it was the complete opposite. I felt like it was a part of me because I was feeling a connection to nature, especially since I was spending time there every Tuesday and Thursday. It was fun to spend there with my group members because we got to know each other better and found each other’s perspective on climate change and nature.
When we did the welcome video for the website, we got to see the changes of the seasons, but we also had a chance to be creative. It was a good laugh because we all enjoyed each other’s company. I think our sit-spot was so perfect because it brought us closer to one another.
The summer time was beautiful, all the trees and plants were bright green. The fall was majestic because you can see how nature was changing with the time. The leaves started to fall out and change colors, like red, orange, and brown. The animals were not out as much, I only saw squirrels, but they were still beautiful to look at.
I was spending time at the sit spot when it started to snow heavily, and it was freezing outside. But I wanted to see the difference in season, so I stayed outside. It was like a winter wonderland, it was so beautiful. The way the snow stuck to the trees and plants, and how the snow fell down to the river. The squirrels found food and hid themselves to stay warm.
Every season was different, but it was amazing to see how nature changes in Chicago. I am very glad that we did this activity because I found a place that feels very welcoming. I would sit down on the bench, listen to music, and do my assignments. When I needed a break, I would look up and appreciate the beauty of nature. This place is wonderful for people to get away from reality. I think the practice will help with their mental health. It definitely did for me.
I would love to come back to the sit spot after I graduate and reminisce about all the things I did. I have lived in Albany Park all my life, and I never knew that North Park University is such a beautiful spot.
I truly hope that other students appreciate the sit spots with their friends or on their own. The memorial garden is a spot that is unforgettable and I am sure that the next upcoming generations of students at North Park will find that it to be the perfect place
